King's Honours

Individuals from all walks of life who have made a difference to their community or field of work; demonstrated innovation and entrepreneurship, or perhaps given years of service to the emergency services, have travelled to Buckingham Palace to collect their awards by either the King or another senior member of the Royal Family.

The Honours List is published twice a year, at New Year and in mid-June on the King’s official birthday.

You do not need Honours List IQ to submit an application. Anyone can nominate for a King’s honour. Simply download the form from the Government website and send the submission to the Honours and Appointments Secretariat. The nomination can be any length as long as it is accompanied by a minimum of two letters of support. However, we do recommend between 6 and fifteen letters depending on the breadth of achievement.

There is no deadline or specific date to submit a nomination; the Honours and Appointments Secretariat welcomes applications 365 days a year. However, do bear in mind that the process involves a consideration period of at least 12-18 months. Within that time it can be advisable to send an update letter to keep the Cabinet Office abreast with any new accomplishments.

A National honour can be awarded for all types of achievements and there are usually two categories of people who receive them – charitable, giving people who have given up their time to help others on a local, national or international level, and those who are considered leaders in their chosen field.

Don’t forget
When submitting an application, you are not required to suggest the level of honour you believe the nominee should receive. The level of honour is the decision of the select committee who are reviewing the application.
